Northeast Kingdom Council on Aging

St. Johnsbury, VT

The mission of the NEK Council on Aging is to provide communities the tools to age well. We are committed to providing person-centered care and lifestyle options that inform, encourage, inspire, and support older adults.

HOW WE SUPPORT YOU

We provide caregiving, health insurance, nutrition, and wellness services to older Vermonters who live in Caledonia, Orleans, and Essex counties in the Northeast Kingdom. Our four locations are in St. Johnsbury (481 Summer Street, Suite 101), Newport (Derby Time Square, Suite H), Hardwick (by appointment at 4 Slapp Hill Road), and Island Pond (by appointment at 82 Maple Street).

One call to our helpline at (800) 642-5119 or a visit to our website www.nekcouncil.org connects you to services that support your independence. Our staff is ready to listen to you and help with brief assistance or make referrals. If you need help exploring long-term options for meeting your goals, our short-term options counselors are trained to coordinate solutions. If you require ongoing support, our case managers help to coordinate the support you need to live independently, your way.

We offer several monthly informative and support groups for kinship care (grandparents caring for grandchildren), Alzheimer’s and dementia support, caregiver support, and Medicare Bootcamp for those new to Medicare. Additional services include:

  • State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP)
  • Transportation
  • Food and Fuel
  • Family Caregiver Program
  • Independent Living - Help At Home

The community dining sites serve congregate meals and/or provide home-delivered meals through Meals on Wheels. For a complete list of the community dining sites in the Kingdom use this link.

At the Council, we rely on the dedication and support of more than 370 volunteers who lead wellness classes, prepare and deliver meals, offer companionship, laughter, and love.
